Bright & black round bar, hexagon, square, flat bar, equal angle and cast iron — in 20+ grades from EN1A to EN40B. Diameters up to 600mm. Cut to any length from a single piece. Held in stock at our Nottinghamshire facility.
Bright drawn round bar is cold-drawn through a die to produce a smooth surface finish and precise dimensional tolerances to BS EN 10278. It is the most widely stocked form of engineering steel bar and suits the majority of turned, bored and machined applications without further surface preparation.
Available in a comprehensive range of grades from free-cutting EN1A through to case hardening EN36 and EN36C. All sizes available in metric (mm) and imperial (inch fractions) — both held in stock across the full range.
Tolerances to BS EN 10278: h9 for smaller diameters, h10 and h11 for larger sections. See our Tolerances & Standards page for full tables.
Hot rolled black round bar is produced by rolling at high temperature, leaving a characteristic dark mill scale surface. It is more economical than bright bar for larger diameters and is the standard supply form for large-section engineering applications.
Our range extends to 600mm diameter — one of the widest single-site stockholder ranges in the UK. This large-diameter capability makes Parkside a key supplier for heavy engineering, oil & gas, and large shaft applications.
Supplied to BS EN 10060 tolerances. For machined components, allow an appropriate material allowance in your design. Confirm grade and diameter availability with our sales team for the largest sections.
► Up to 600mm diameter — one of the widest large-diameter ranges available from a single-site UK stockholder. Call 01623 687 660 to confirm grade and size availability.
Bright drawn hexagon bar is supplied with six flat faces along its length. The across-flats (A/F) dimension determines the size and matches directly to spanner or collet tooling — a 25mm hex bar fits a 25mm spanner without any turning.
Hexagon bar is the natural starting material for bolts, nuts, valve bodies, hydraulic fittings and any component benefiting from pre-formed flat faces. It dramatically reduces machining time compared to starting from round bar. Available in imperial AF fractions across the full range. Tolerances per BS EN 10278.
Bright drawn square bar provides a precise square cross-section for components where flat faces and right angles are required without further machining. Common applications include keys, gibs, slides, cams and tooling blanks where the square section is a functional feature of the finished component. Available in metric and imperial. Tolerances per BS EN 10278.
Bright drawn flat bar is available in a wide range of width and thickness combinations — from narrow strips through to wide flats for machine beds, slideways and structural components. Widths from 10mm to 300mm with multiple standard thicknesses per width.
Used extensively in fabricated frames and brackets, keyway blanks, wear strips, slide guides and anywhere a flat, accurate face is required. Available in EN8, mild steel and other grades — call our team for specific width and thickness combinations in stock.
ⓘ Flat bar is stocked in a large number of width × thickness combinations. Download the stock range guide or call 01623 687 660 to confirm your specific combination.
Bright drawn equal angle has two legs of equal length at a right angle, with a clean bright finish and sharp, consistent corners. Stocked in 15 standard sizes from 16×16×3mm up to 50×50×6mm.
Used for frames, brackets, trims, supports and light structural fabrication where an accurate, ready-to-use angle profile is needed. Supplied in grade S235JRC. Cut to any length from one piece.
Continuous cast iron bar in grey iron (EN-GJL-250) and ductile / SG iron (EN-GJS-400C, 500C, 600C). Grey iron offers excellent machinability and vibration damping; the ductile grades add high tensile strength, impact toughness and elongation — bridging cast iron and cast steel.
Used for bearing housings, bushes, machine beds, pump and valve bodies, gears, crankshafts and pressure-tight hydraulic components. Stocked in rounds from 25mm to 400mm diameter, cut to length. Orange bar-end colour code.
Our bar range supplies every sector of UK engineering and manufacturing. Common applications include:
EN1A and EN8 bright round and hex for CNC turning. EN19T for guaranteed tensile shafts.
42CrMo4 (EN19) driveline shafts. SAE 8620 case hardened gears. EN24T for high-performance structural components.
EN24T large-diameter bar for drill collars. EN19 for valve bodies. EN40B nitrided cylinder rods. 3.1 certs standard.
EN8 and EN9 for PTO shafts and tines. Grey cast iron for bearing housings. Large-diameter black bar for heavy axles.
EN40B nitrided cylinder rods replacing hard chrome. EN1A hex for valve spools. EN19 for pump shafts.
Single-piece cut lengths for replacement shafts. No minimum order. Cast iron for bearing sleeves. Next day available.
