655M13 (formerly EN36/EN36B) is a high-nickel chromium case hardening steel. After carburising, develops an exceptionally tough, ductile core with a very hard, wear-resistant case — a combination that cannot be achieved with plain carbon or lower-alloy case hardening grades. The premium choice for heavily loaded gears, camshafts and transmission components subject to both surface wear and impact loading.

Technical Notes

Remarks & Guidance.

Carburise at 880–930°C. Oil quench. Temper at 150–180°C. For most automotive applications where cost is important, 8620 (805M20) provides adequate performance.
