Mechanical Properties.
Values shown for standard supply condition. Properties vary by section size and heat treatment condition.
| Condition | Size (mm) | Tensile Rm (N/mm²) | Proof Rp0.2 (N/mm²) | A% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CD | ≤16 / >16–40 / >40–100 | 510–810 / 460–710 / 360–630 | 440 / 375 / 245 | 6 / 8 / 9 |
Hardness values: see our hardness conversion table to convert between HRC, HB, HV and tensile strength.
Typical Applications.
- Control linkages and low-stress shafts
- Hydraulic fittings and brake components
- Wheel nuts, bolts and studs
- Casings, handles and instrument parts
- Gearbox components (if case hardened)
Key Benefits.
- Exceptional machinability on automatic lathes
- Extends tooling life significantly
- Cleaner surface finish on turned components
- Tight tolerances to BS EN 10278
- Consistent chemistry for repeatable results
Remarks & Guidance.
Poor weldability — welding should be avoided. Can be case hardened to improve wear resistance. By convention many producers omit the mechanical properties test; material is then supplied 'to analysis only'. A leaded version (PS QA 002 — 230M07Pb) allows even faster machining speeds.
