832M13

15NiCrMo16-5 / 1.6723
Formerly EN36C

832M13 (formerly EN36C) is the premium case hardening steel combining nickel, chromium and molybdenum for the highest combination of case hardness, core toughness and large-section hardenability. The molybdenum addition significantly improves through-hardenability of the core in large sections and resists temper embrittlement.

Applications

Typical Applications.

  • Critical aerospace gearing
  • Defence transmission components
  • Heavy industrial gearboxes — large sections
  • High-performance motorsport drivetrain
  • Large case-hardened shafts
Benefits

Key Benefits.

  • Highest specification standard EN case hardening grade
  • Molybdenum addition improves large-section core hardenability
  • Resists temper embrittlement
  • Hard case: 60–64 HRC
  • Exceptional core toughness — higher than EN36
Technical Notes

Remarks & Guidance.

Specify EN36C / 832M13 only where performance of EN36B has been demonstrated insufficient — this is a premium-cost grade. Carburise at 880–930°C. Double-hardening procedure generally recommended. Temper at 150–180°C after final quench. Welding requires strict pre- and post-weld procedures.
