Why We Bought It

Stockholding is a space business. The number of grades you can hold, the size ranges you can cover, the volume you can commit to a customer at short notice — all of it ultimately comes down to floor area and racking. For several years demand has been pushing at the walls of our existing operation: more customers, more grades requested, more cut-to-length work going through the saws.

The new unit at Sherwood Park, Annesley answers that directly. At 60,000 sq ft it gives us the room to expand stock across more grades and more size ranges, and the space to add processing capability alongside it.

What It Means for Customers

Operating across two sites at Sherwood Park means more of what customers actually ask us for:

• Deeper stock — more tonnage held per grade and size, so larger call-offs can be committed from stock rather than waiting on mill deliveries.
• A wider range — space to add grades, profiles and size ranges that we previously had to source to order.
• More processing — room for additional sawing capacity, so cut-to-length lead times hold steady as volume grows.

The location matters too. Sherwood Park sits five minutes from Junction 27 of the M1, at the geographic centre of England’s motorway network — the reason we moved to Nottinghamshire in 2006, and the reason our own-fleet delivery routes can reach so much of the country so frequently.

The Bigger Picture

Parkside Steel has been supplying engineering steel bar since 1977. Growth has always been steady and deliberate — range first, capacity second, never at the expense of the service that built the business: any grade, cut to any length, from one piece, with the same care for every order.

This acquisition is the next step in that pattern. More space means more stock; more stock means more customers get a “yes, from stock, this week” answer when they call.
