Quality You Can
Audit.

Our ISO 9001 certification is not a badge on a letterhead. It is the documented evidence that our purchasing, stockholding, cutting, and dispatch processes are controlled, repeatable and independently verified. Here is what that means for your business.

What Certification
Actually Means.

ISO 9001 is easy to dismiss as a tick-box exercise. Done properly, it is the opposite — a documented, independently audited system that forces a business to define, follow and improve its processes. Here is what it translates to in a steel stockholder context.

🔍

Controlled Purchasing

We source from mills whose own quality systems we have assessed. Material arriving at our facility comes with the documentation to back it up. We do not buy from unknown sources and hold undocumented material in our stock.

🏫

Calibrated Equipment

Our saws, measuring equipment and gauges are subject to a calibration and maintenance schedule. When we quote a tolerance of −0/+2mm, the equipment we use to set and verify cuts is calibrated to that standard.

📄

Full Traceability

Every consignment leaving this site can be traced back to its mill certificate. Grade, heat number, standard and mechanical properties are documented from intake to your delivery note. If a question arises about material months later, we can answer it.

📋

Defined Processes

Our order intake, stock allocation, cutting, inspection and dispatch procedures are written down and followed. That means a customer gets the same process whether it is their first order or their fiftieth — not a different experience depending on who picks up the phone.

📊

Continuous Improvement

ISO 9001 requires us to measure, review and improve. That means tracking errors, customer feedback and process performance — not just fixing problems when they arise, but identifying patterns and addressing the root cause.

Independent Audit

BSI auditors visit our site regularly to verify that what we say we do, we actually do. The certificate is not self-declared — it is issued by an accredited third-party certification body and has to be renewed through surveillance audits and periodic recertification.

The certificate proves
the system works.
The system makes sure
every order is right.

ISO 9001 is not about the paperwork. It is about building a facility where the right things happen every time — regardless of how busy the floor is or who is on shift.

Material Certification

EN 10204 — Material
Test Certificates.

EN 10204 is the European standard that defines what a material test certificate must contain and how it must be verified. There are three levels relevant to steel bar stockholding. We provide all three depending on your specification.

2.2

Test Report

A declaration by the manufacturer that the products supplied comply with the requirements of the order, with results of non-specific inspection and testing. The test results are based on tests carried out by the manufacturer on similar products.

When to specify 2.2: General engineering applications where the grade and standard compliance are required but witness of testing or specific heat traceability is not mandated. This is the standard document supplied with most routine deliveries on request.

Standard availability
3.1

Inspection Certificate

A declaration by the manufacturer's authorised inspection representative that the products supplied comply with the requirements of the order, with test results. The test results relate to the specific products supplied and are verified by a representative independent of the manufacturing department.

When to specify 3.1: Oil and gas, defence, aerospace, pressure vessel and any application requiring documented proof that the material received was specifically tested — not just that similar material passed. Required for most ASME, API and PED applications. Available on all alloy grades from Parkside.

Available on all alloy grades
3.2

Witnessed Inspection

A declaration by both the manufacturer's authorised inspection representative and the purchaser's representative (or an inspectorate approved by the purchaser) that the products supplied comply with the requirements of the order, with test results.

When to specify 3.2: The most demanding applications — critical safety components, nuclear, submarine and specific defence procurement where independent witness of testing at the mill is required. Available by arrangement through our supply chain.

By arrangement

Not sure which certificate you need? Call our sales team on 01623 687 660. We can advise based on your end application and customer specification. If your drawing or purchase order specifies a cert type, we will match it. If it does not specify one, we can recommend the appropriate level.

Traceability

From Mill Certificate
to Your Delivery Note.

Traceability in steel means being able to answer one question at any point: where did this material come from and what are its verified properties? Our quality system is built around maintaining that chain from the moment material arrives on site to the moment it leaves on one of our vehicles.

Every bar in our stock is identity-marked with its grade and where applicable its heat number. When material is cut, the cut pieces remain traceable to the original mill certificate. Your delivery note references the certificate, the certificate references the mill, and the mill certificate contains the verified chemical and mechanical test results.

For audit, re-inspection or any quality query, we can pull the documentation — regardless of how long ago the material was supplied.

01 🌎

Mill — Certificate Issued

Steel produced at the mill and tested. Mill certificate issued quoting heat number, chemical analysis and mechanical test results per the relevant standard.

02 🚢

Receipt — Identity Marked

Bar received at Sherwood Park. Checked against purchase order. Grade and heat number marked on the bar end. Mill certificate filed and linked to stock.

03

Cutting — Traceable to Heat

When your order is cut, the cut pieces remain traceable to the original heat. Job documentation references the stock location and certificate.

04 📄

Dispatch — Certificate with Delivery

Your delivery note is raised referencing the material. Where a 3.1 cert is specified, it is printed and despatched with the steel or supplied electronically.

05 🔍

After Delivery — Retrievable

Documentation is retained and retrievable. If a question arises about material supplied weeks or months later, we can provide the relevant documentation.

Day to Day

Quality in Practice.

What ISO 9001 looks like on the shop floor every day — not in the manual.

📝

Every Job Has a Sheet

Every cutting order runs with a job sheet that specifies the grade, size, quantity, length and tolerance. The operator checks the sheet before cutting, not after. Errors caught before the cut are free. Errors caught after are not.

📏

Measuring Equipment Calibrated

The tape measures, verniers and gauges used on our cutting floor are on a calibration schedule. A gauge that reads 299mm instead of 300mm will fail its calibration check before it can cause a problem.

🔒

Stock Segregated by Grade

Grades that look similar — EN8 and EN19 both look like steel bar — are physically segregated in the racking and identity-marked. A mix-up between grades in a safety-critical application is the kind of error our system is designed to make impossible.

👥

Supplier Assessment

We do not simply buy from whoever offers the lowest price on any given day. Our approved supplier list is maintained and reviewed. New mill sources are assessed before material from them enters our stock.

📊

Non-Conformance Tracked

When something goes wrong — a wrong length, a delivery issue, a customer complaint — it is logged, root-caused and actioned. The same problem should not occur twice. Our record shows that it usually does not.

🕐

Management Review

ISO 9001 requires management to formally review the quality system at defined intervals. our management team and the management team review quality performance data, customer feedback and process metrics to set improvement objectives for the coming period.

For Our Customers

What This Means
for Your Business.

In practical terms, buying from an ISO 9001 certified stockholder with full EN 10204 traceability does the following for you.

📋

Satisfies Your QMS

If your own ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality management system requires certified approved suppliers, Parkside already meets that criterion. No further auditing of our facility required.

🔍

Audit-Ready Documentation

When your quality auditor asks for the material certificate for that batch of EN24T supplied six months ago, we can find it. The chain is intact and retrievable.

🆕

Reduced Incoming Inspection

Material from a certified, traceable source with verified mill test certificates reduces the burden of incoming inspection at your goods-in. The certificate does the work.

Specification Compliance

ASME, API, BS, EN, PED and similar standards-based purchase orders can reference the cert type required. We will supply the appropriate EN 10204 certificate to match your specification.
